Trinity School Of Medicine

Five-Year Doctor of Medicine Degree Program

The 5-Year combined pre-medical and medical degree program was designed for students in countries outside the U.S. and Canada where higher secondary education (and the Higher Secondary Exam) immediately precede entry to professional degree programs.

Students who have completed a Higher Secondary Certificate in a Sciences stream including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are strong candidates for this program.

The Five-term Pre-Medical and ten-term Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree programs, in combination, offer a comprehensive medical education and prepare students for postgraduate education in the U.S.
Accepted applicants whose previous academic work is determined to be equivalent to courses in the Pre-Medical curriculum may be granted credit for those courses and exempted from taking courses that cover topics and disciplines the student has mastered.

Five Year Program Advantages

U.S. Clinical Clerkships

We offer all of our core rotations in one location, where we have partnerships and community affiliations to provide the highest quality clinical education to Trinity students.
Trinity provides students the kind of clinical experience you would expect from a U.S. medical school.

We offer the choice of two clinical campuses, where we have affiliations with top teaching hospitals and medical clinics to provide the highest quality clinical education to Trinity students.

In both locations, Trinity students can complete their full 48 weeks of core rotations in our affiliated hospitals and clinics – no waiting for rotations slots to open and no waiting between rotations.

An extensive list of fourth year elective rotations is also available in both locations. Students can finish on time and stay on track for their residency match cycle.

Under the supervision of world class physicians, Trinity students participate in 48 weeks of required core clerkships and 27 weeks of elective clerkships. Students obtain new clinical expertise in the basic clinical disciplines in preparation for advanced training in their residencies. Students use the 27 weeks of elective clerkships to strategically develop specialty skills and build their resumes for residency applications, all under the guidance of the clinical dean.

On-site leadership is an invaluable resource to students in addition to assisting with preparing for the residency match, it helps them gain full advantage of the clinical experiences available to them in third and fourth year. Clerkships are arranged and scheduled by a Trinity clerkship administrator who works closely with students to plan their rotations.

Trinity students from India have been very resourceful in identifying cuisine options in St. Vincent catering to their specific taste preferences. Certain restaurants have made traditional Indian meals available to Trinity students at an affordable price. Additionally, local markets carry a reasonable supply of Indian cuisine ingredients for meal preparation by students in their fully equipped apartment kitchens.

Transportation

Our transportation services team provides shuttles to class (if students don’t live directly on campus already), as well as regular shuttle services into town for groceries, to Milton Cato Memorial Hospital for clinical training, or wherever students need to go. The safety of our students is a priority from day one.

Planning Your Future with Trinity

The pre-medical and MD degree programs were designed for students with a higher secondary certificate in a sciences stream. Typically the strongest candidates have backgrounds in biology, chemistry, and physics, but students from other areas of focus also thrive.
Together, the pre-medical and MD programs form a cohesive five-year program providing Trinity students with a continuous learning experience that prepares them for the challenges and rewards of practicing medicine.
E

In the pre-medical program, students benefit from Ph.D faculty that teach in both the premed and medical curriculum.

E

Each course is designed from the ground up to comply with international quality standards while also preparing students for the rigors of Trinity’s medical degree program.

Applicants

Applicants should complete the online application and include their school transcripts for review by the Admissions Committee for the 5-Year combined program. Students with Non-English transcripts must have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), an accredited member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
Accepted applicants whose previous academic work is determined to be equivalent to courses in the Pre-Medical curriculum may be granted credit for those courses and exempted from taking courses that cover topics and disciplines the student has mastered.

Enrollment Periods

Applicants for admission to the 5-year combined program may apply to start in January, May or September of any given year. Each term is approximately 15 weeks in length.

Class Size and Deferred Admissions

Once a class is filled, applicants seeking admission to that class may be deferred to the next term. For this reason it is recommended that interested persons apply for admission as early as possible.
